Workspace

Ok so I thought I would take the time to talk about workspaces. No matter what you do it always seems like you need more room right, or at least I know I do. I work mostly on the black bench/desk that is located under my bed. It serves me well except it is way to small. Often at times I will have to move out onto a 4x3 wooden board I keep stored away for when I run out of room, the trouble is no one likes sitting on the floor and working.

I can't complain though, even though I already have, because for all it flaws my workspace can be really good to me. As you can see in one corner I have a nice little "studio" set up to take photo's of models and what not, which is really useful. I also have independently set out on a stand on the other side of my room a paint booth, which is amazing. I have only had one for about a year and before that
the only way to airbrush was to go down to my dad's dusty garage; now that was a hassle.

It's kind of funny the only constant about my bench is the photo corner and the model storage. I had actually taken some photos for this article before I cleaned my room and organized my bench, at which point I decided to take different photos and its interesting to see the different setups. I think I'm going to keep my current one personally, the one that I have in the photos.

Comments are welcome and if anyone wants to share what there work space is like then feel free its always nice to see a bit of variety.

Glass Ornament

Now let me begin by saying, in after thought this probably would have been a better photo if I had removed the red car in the background. However, the positioning of the car allows a viewer to better see the glass hanging ornament and thus prevents it from being lost in the green trees in the background, which in my opinion improves the photo.

Personally what I like about this photo is the fact that the upper left is filled with a group of bright yellow/brown branches and through the transition of the blue sky we reach a darker green area in the lower right corner; a sort of mixing of the two primary colors to get this new color. This photo was taken as the sun was beginning to go down and as such it really lit up the tree branches as I was taking the photo which really helps gives the photo an overall warm effect, as well as make it much easier to shoot.

The Dell Logo

Personally I like to photograph anything. I know some people do portrait others do landscapes, well I do everything. My first photo post is just a picture I took not to long ago, but it is one of my personal favorites. The photo is obviously of the Dell Logo, located on my laptop. The image was taken using a Macro setting which ensured the clarity of the logo, as well as a better blending of the colors reflected in the metallic surface of the logo. I like to use macro at various instances, like when I'm taking close up shots of a model, or just something small, as I love the rich detail that results from a macro shot. The photos in the '53 Corvette article (previous) funnily enough were taken in macro.

'53 Corvette Roadster

My current project is a '53 Corvette Roadster, now I acquired this model probably 4 to 5 years ago and for some reason decided to use it as a test subject for airbrushing techniques. So now I feel compelled to resurrect and complete this kit, in all its glory. Currently it has a thin layer of Testors' Gloss White as a top coat, over a standard primer which I had to use to cover up all the other colors and nicks that it acquired years ago. My plan is to use Tamiya Acrylic Gloss White for the final top coat as I find Tamiya to be easier paints to work with, and will use Testors' Gloss Clear Coat. I am also working on the hood at the same time and will post it with the results of having decaled and clear coated soon, so as to have a taste of what the final product should look like.

Why...

Ok, so hello, my name is Marcus and well this is the beginning of my blog. It is entitled Digital Modeler, url is thedigitalmodeler.blogspot.com. I created this blog to cover two areas of interest to me; models and digital photography, and at times the combination of the two. Now right of the bat let me just say that if you found this website and read the name and expected a blog about digital models of what not, then I'm sorry but you won't find that here; however, your search was not entirely in vain because at this point I would like to redirect you to Danny Kang's blog at digitalmodeler.blogspot.com were you can peruse through his, in my opinion brilliant works, of digital rendering. Now without further ado, I will begin, and I hope this blog will be able to keep someone's interest out there. : )
